About Foldward
Paper by Paper. Sheet by Sheet.
Foldward was built around one idea: families facing inheritance matters deserve papers that are already in order when a qualified practitioner first opens the file.

How Foldward Came to Be
Foldward grew out of a pattern noticed across several Sabah families: boxes of documents existed, but nobody could say with confidence what was in them. Titles were mixed with letters. Photocopies obscured originals. Undated pages had no context. When estate matters eventually reached a lawyer or estate administrator, a portion of every appointment became, in effect, a sorting session — at professional rates.
The Foldward model begins one step before that point. A family brings its papers. We sort, label, index and bind them. The family leaves with a portfolio they own and understand — and, where a second column of professional work is needed, a directory of registered practitioners in Sabah and Labuan to help them take the next step.
We are a clerical and records organisation service, not a legal, financial or estate practice. That boundary is written into every engagement note we produce, and it is the boundary that makes our work useful: the family knows exactly what they have received from us and exactly what they still need to obtain elsewhere.
Mission
Organise First. Then Pass the File.
Our mission is to give every family a portfolio that speaks for itself — one that any qualified professional can open, navigate and act upon without first spending an hour sorting through it.
Values
- Clarity of scope. We say clearly what we do and what we do not do — in writing, before work begins.
- Legible work. Every label, index and note is written so that the family can read and maintain it without our involvement.
- Family ownership. Digital copies go to accounts the family controls. Nothing is held on our systems beyond the engagement.
- Calm pace. Inheritance matters carry weight. We do not rush sessions or use language designed to create urgency.

How We Work
Standards We Hold to on Every Engagement
Written Scope Before Work Begins
Every engagement opens with a written note stating what Foldward will do, what it will not do, and what the family will receive at the end. No work starts until that note is agreed and signed.
Document Handling with Care
Originals are never marked, stamped or altered. All annotations go on labels and index sheets, not on the documents themselves. Fragile items are handled in protective sleeves.
Private and Confidential
Family papers are not photographed or copied beyond what is needed for the engagement. Digital mirrors are placed in storage the family controls. Nothing is shared with third parties.
Clear Professional Boundaries
Foldward does not provide legal advice, estate administration, financial planning or correspondence in anyone's name. The boundary between clerical work and professional practice is stated in every document we produce.
Legible Naming Conventions
Labels, dividers and index entries follow a naming convention written into the maintenance sheet so the family can add or update documents without needing to return to us.
Practitioner Directory Kept Current
The directory of registered professionals in Sabah and Labuan included in each engagement is reviewed quarterly. We note the registration type and area of practice; we do not recommend individuals.
Our Approach
Records Organisation for Inheritance Matters in Sabah
Families in Kota Kinabalu and across Sabah often hold papers accumulated over several generations — land grants, identity documents, correspondence, and certificates in multiple languages reflecting the region's varied administrative history. When an estate matter arises, these papers surface from different places and in different states of completeness.
Foldward's work sits at the point where a family recognises that it needs to get its papers together but is not yet ready to hand them to a lawyer, estate administrator or financial adviser. The gap between those two moments — between recognising the need and being ready to act professionally — is where clerical organisation adds the most value.
The Two-Column Orientation draws that line explicitly on a single sheet of paper. The family leaves with a written picture of which tasks they can handle and which tasks require someone with a professional licence or registration. That clarity, on its own, tends to make the conversations that follow with qualified practitioners more productive and less expensive.
The Portfolio Build goes a step further by producing a physical and digital record the family can pass directly to those practitioners. A bound portfolio with a contents page, dividers, a gap list, and a naming convention means the practitioner spends their time on matters within their expertise, not on sorting folders.
The Register, Chronology and Handover is the most detailed engagement Foldward offers. It is suited to families with a larger body of documents, a longer family history or a more complex mix of asset types. The result is a register indexed by document type, a chronology drawn solely from evidence in the family's own papers, and a neutral summary sheet designed to be placed directly in front of a qualified professional at the first appointment.
All Foldward work is performed in Kota Kinabalu at our Jalan Pantai office. Engagements are by appointment. Families are welcome to bring documents in whatever state they are currently in — there is no requirement to have sorted anything in advance.
